CHAT is a community driven by people who share a passion and believe in the transformative effect that assistive technology has on individual’s lives.
CHAT aims to facilitate and create opportunities amongst people to learn from each other in an atmosphere that supports equality, collective and individual sharing. This makes the most of people’s expertise to identify better challenges, gaps and to consider solutions regarding AT.
Chat has a national membership of over 200 people and organisations. This includes people with disabilities (expert and non-expert AT users), AT practitioners, researchers, educators, service providers, developers, suppliers and other interested parties.
Different member organisations host each CHAT gathering. To date, CHAT has been hosted by the Deaf Village, Enable Ireland, University College Dublin Access Centre and The National Council of the Blind in Ireland, St. John of God, Childvision, National Rehab Hospital, UCC, IHREC, Microsoft, TUDublin, DCC WoodQuay and online with Employers for Change. As such, gatherings are co-created by those involved and as participants share knowledge, we are all thinking together and working horizontally across and beyond the disability sector.

5th December 2022 –
Freedomtech invites you to register for the next online CHAT gathering.
This Community Hub for Assistive Technology event will focus on Access to Assistive Technology along with who and what helps us to get the assistive technology we need and if we are in line with the recommendations from the Global Report on Assistive Technology by the WHO and UNICEF.
When: Monday, 5th December 2022 at 3 pm
During this CHAT, people with lived experience of the AT system in Ireland will share some of the processes and their stories on the current opportunities and challenges within the system. We will also learn from Natasha Layton, Australia, about an AT Outcome model that could support the larger AT Ecosystem in Ireland. We will also have updates from the CREATE grant projects and many more shoutouts.
