Director of Communications, Public Affairs & Fundraising, Rehab Group
I am currently Director of Communications, Public Affairs & Fundraising at Rehab Group. Prior to this I worked as Head of Advocacy and Communications at the Irish Cancer Society. I started my career as a journalist working RTÉ for a number of years before becoming a member of Seanad Éireann. I stood for the Dáil for Labour in North Tipperary but did not succeed in getting elected. I then retired from politics in 2007 and turned my attention to working in the charity sector championing advocacy and communications campaigns to bring about change in policy and practice and to transform the lives of people in our communities.
I have a passion for powerful communication and for advocacy and I bring my experience to the Board of the Disability Federation of Ireland helping it to achieve its mission of enabling people with disabilities to play a central role in our communities. I have considerable experience of sitting on a number of boards within the NGO sector and am a strong advocate of importance of good, strong governance and transparency within the sector.
